“Grown-ish”: 10 new TV shows you need to see this 2018

From "Grown-ish" to "The Chi," here are 10 new TV series of 2018 you should know about.

2017 was a good year for TV, but there are already new TV shows you need to see this 2018.

While there are returning favourites such as "Daredevil Season  3, "Westworld" Season 2 and Jessica Jones Season 2, there are also quite a number of brand new shows to anticipate.

From "Grown-ish" to "The Chi," police procedurals to superhero sagas, here are 10 new TV shows of 2018 you should know about.


1. "9-1-1"

A Ryan Murphy procedural drama which boasts actors such as TV veterans Angela Bassett, Connie Britton and Peter Krause isn't one to miss, or at least, give a chance.

The series which follows the lives of Los Angeles first responders: cops, paramedics, firefighters and dispatchers,premiered on January 3, 2018.

2. "Grown-ish"

Zoey Johnson from "Black-ish" is getting her own spinoff. The series follows Zoey as she heads off to college and begins her journey to adulthood but quickly discovers that not everything goes her way once she leaves the nest.

"Grown-ish" premiered on January 3.

3. "The Chi"

Fresh off her Emmy win for writing an innovative episode of "Master of None," Lena returns with a new TV show.

With "The Chi," Waithe tells the story of life in a particular neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago.

It premieres on January 7, 2018.


4. "Black Lightening"

Jefferson Pierce, who retired from his superhero persona Black Lightning nine years ago after seeing the effects it had on his family, is forced to become a vigilante again when the rise of a local gang leads to increased crime and corruption in his community.

Based on the DC Comics character of the same name, "Black Lightening" debuts on January 16.

5. "The Resident"

"The Resident" centers on an idealistic young doctor who begins his first day under the supervision of a tough, brilliant senior resident who pulls the curtain back on all of the good and evil in modern day medicine.

Lives may be saved or lost, but expectations will always be shattered. This show premieres on January 21, 2017.


6. "The Alienist"

Based on the novel of same name by Caleb Carr, the series is set to premiere on January 22, 2018.

In the series, crime reporter, John Moore, meets with psychologist, Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, to investigate a serial killer in New York during the late 19th century.

7. "Altered Carbon"

"Altered Carbon" is set in a future where consciousness is digitized and stored in cortical stacks implanted in the spine, allowing humans to survive physical death by having their memories and consciousness "re-sleeved" into new bodies.

This science fiction television series will premiere on Netflix on February 2, 2018.


8. "Good Girls"

In "Good Girls," three suburban mothers suddenly find themselves in desperate circumstances and decide to stop playing it safe and risk everything to take their power back.

The series premieres on February 26, 2018.

9. "The Looming Tower"

Tracing the rising threat of Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda, "The Looming Tower" takes a controversial look at how the rivalry between the CIA and FBI inadvertently might have set the stage for the tragedy of 9/11 and the war in Iraq.

The anticipated Hulu show premieres on February 28.


10. "Sharp Objects"

It tells the story of Camille Preaker, a reporter recently discharged from a psychiatric hospital. She returns to her hometown, trying to solve the murder of two young girls, all the while trying to overcome her own psychological problems.

A miniseries starring Amy Adams and based on Gillian Flynn's novel of the same name, "Sharp Objects" is scheduled to debut on HBO in the summer of 2018.
