Facebook: Social network, Sony/ATV sign agreement that permits users to post music videos

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg

Users on Facebook, Instagram and Oculus Rift will be able to enjoy over 3 million songs

Facebook and Sony/ATV Music Publishing on Monday inked a multi-year licensing deal that lets users upload and share video from Sony/ATV artists on Facebook, Instagram and Oculus Rift.

With this new deal, 3 million songs from artists including Kanye West, The Chainsmokers, Drake and Sam Smith can be shared and enjoyed on the three Facebook-owned platforms. Sony/ATV is the world's largest company that helps artists distribute and monetize their songs. Tracks from music legends like Michael Jackson, The Beatles and Bob Dylan are also housed under their catalogue.

Commenting on the partnership, Facebook Head of Music Business Development and Partnerships Tamara Hrivnak said: “We’re excited to work with the largest music publisher in the world to bring amazing songs which deepen connections between friends and fans.”

Facebook believes video is the future of social networking and has been increasing video feeds on its site. The social network's partnership with Sony/ATV will help improve viewing experience on the site and compete with companies such as Google's Youtube and Spotify.
