Dandruff: Here’s why you have flaky scalp + ways to deal with it

Contrary to beliefs that people with dry skin are prone to the dandruff, it usually isn't the case as people with oily scalps are at a higher risk of getting dandruff!

Dandruff is definitely annoying and unwanted!

Dandruff is usually as a result of a dry scalp, or a skin condition and also commonly malassezia; an overgrowth of a yeast-like fungus which can be gotten rid of it attention is well paid to its treatment.

It can also be brought under control or completely gotten rid  of when lifestyle habits are top notch; simple things are diet, hydration and how often you wash your hair can be the reasons for flaky flare ups!

Dandruff can be an indicator of stress and a sign for you to relax. Stress tells on the body's immune system which activates dandruff flare-ups.

Dandruff can also be as a result of not washing (or rinsing out) hair well. In cases where hair is left for months on end without proper wash, there's bound to be a build up of sweat, sebum/oil which can cause extreme flakiness.

Going crazy with applying mousses, styling gels/spritz, hairsprays and oily hair creams that build up over time are also a major cause of dandruff.

Dandruff can come mild or very stubborn, for the mild ones a switch in lifestyle habits, shampooing and conditioning with over the counter products targeted at it will clear it out in a few weeks but for more stubborn ones, dedicated treatments and utmost attention to it is advised.

 

These two ways are natural tested ways to get rid of dandruff.

1. Use Olive oil

Olive oil helps nourish the scalp with clogging it.

  • Massage a generous drops of olive oil into your scalp

  • Cover your head with a shower cap and leave overnight

  • Continue with your regular shampoo and conditioner routine in the morning

2. Use Lemon Juice

Lemon juice helps to balance the PH of your scalp eliminating dandruff.

  • Massage 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice into your scalp then rinse with water

  • Afterwards mix 1 teaspoon of lemon juice into a cup of water then rinse your hair with this

  • Use this continuously until dandruff clears
